Future Technology for Mazda

Mazda's Hofu Plant 1 in Japan has implemented a new highly efficient painting system that reduces VOC emissions by as much as 45%, without resorting to waterborne methods. Mazda says the new system both reduces paint consumption and achieves a higher quality finish. Future plans call for the technology to be extended to other plants and modified to accommodate waterborne painting methods.

Mazda3 Classy All-Round Small Car


Price, stylish packaging, safety and engine put the Mazda3 ahead of the pack. The Mazda3 has won a total of 56 awards; including winner of hatchback comparison in 2005 Australia, Small Car of the Year in New Zealand 2005, Best Economy Car in the U.S.A 2005; in 2004 it was Australia's Best Small Car and Canadian and Hong Kong Car of the Year; 2003 it was Car of the Year in Turkey, Japan, Denmark, Czech, Croatia.

The range opens with the 2.0-litre Neo at $21,490 while the mid-range Maxx and Maxx Sport are $25,490 and $26,175 respectively. The range-topping 2.3-litre SP23 sedan or hatch costs $29,990.

The Mazda3 Maxx Sport was Drive Car of the Year 2006. It won because it was the best all round package and easily the most complete safety package out of its competitors which included the Ford Focus, Honda Civic and Volkswagen. It was the only finalist with stability control and curtain airbags available, and it also has a rear seatbelt reminder function for the three back seats. Not only does it look classy and sporty but its engine has enough power to get off the mark and is responsive throughout the rev range.

Car sales slump

Ford's Falcon and the Mitsubishi 380 both experienced sales slumps last month, according to the latest Vfacts industry figures released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.

Ford sold 2801 Falcons last month and Mitsubishi just 841 of its 380 V6 sedans.

Overall Falcon sales are down 24 per cent this year compared to the same period last year, while 380 sales have slipped 10 per cent.




Of all new motor cars, Toyota was the top-selling brand last month with 19,371 sales, far infront of Holden at 12,902 and Ford holding on at 9571.
